Before the 1990s, all excavators had a long or conventional counterweight that hung off the rear of the machine to provide more digging force and lifting capacity. This became a nuisance when working in confined areas. In 1993 Yanmar launched the world’s first Zero Tail Swing excavator,[9] which allows the counterweight to stay inside the width of the tracks as it slews, thus being safer and more user friendly when used in a confined space. This type of machine is now widely used throughout the world.
After years of testing, John Deere released its first proper diesel tractor in 1949, the Model R. The R was also the first Deere tractor with a ‘live’ independent PTO equipped with its own clutch. The R also incorporated live hydraulics. PowrTrol, as it was known, provided the operator the ability to lift equipment by the pull of a lever. A pump powered by the PTO clutch provided 1800 PSI of hydraulic pressure to a lever controlled valve. At 45 hp at the drawbar and 50 hp at the belt, it was the most fuel-efficient tractor available at the time, and this combination of features resulted in over 21,000 being built. The model R had a shipping weight of 7,670 lb. The R was equipped with two engines. The primary plant is a two-cylinder, four-stroke, naturally aspirated 416 cubic inch (5.75 X 8 bore and stroke) direct injected diesel engine with a 16:1 compression ratio. The starting motor is also a Deere two-cylinder, 26 cubic-inch horizontally opposed gasoline engine. The starting or “pony” engine is electrically started by a six-volt electrical system, and is used to crank the diesel. Testing results with various electrical starting systems for the diesel proved to be too bulky requiring a 24- or 32-volt system. The design of the pony start Rs allowed for hot exhaust gasses to preheat the intake air for the diesel and a common liquid cooling system allowed the pony engine to warm the diesel block and head. This provided sufficient cold weather starting aids for the diesel that it would reliably run in sub zero conditions. The R did have several teething problems as this was Deere’s first production diesel tractor. Available as a standard tractor only, it did not have an adjustable front axle, nor did it have a three-point hitch. The engine was mainly an up-scaled gasoline engine from the Model D. The use of a thermosiphon cooling system and the lack of a three-point bearing crankshaft proved inadequate for diesel compression ratios. The R was prone to overheating and cracking the cylinder head. The lack of a center main bearing in the crankshaft allowed the shaft to flex when used as a stationary powerplant on the belt; this would lead to its failure. The live PTO was directed through (2) 45° bevel gears that proved too small to durably transmit the full torque of the engine. The tractor was fully serviceable at pulling larger equipment efficiently on large acre wheatland farms.

Because farm machinery is now so high-tech, the only way to silence the error message is by plugging in a special diagnostic tool – essentially a computer loaded with troubleshooting software that connects to a port inside the tractor – to identify and resolve the problem. Only manufacturers and authorized dealers are allowed that tool, and they charge hundreds of dollars in call-out fees to use it. For a fifth-generation farmer in an increasingly squeezed industry, whose family has spent decades fixing the equipment they paid for, it’s a tough pill to swallow. He’s coped with the intermittent alarm sound for almost a year.
Series founder, Mike Ott has THE original multiple-engine tractor. Built in 1972 by Carl and Paul Bosse, this was the first crossbox-driven four-engine tractor (or vehicle) ever built for competition. It runs 4 Holman Moody engines, which were basically the Rousch engines of it’s day. These four motors were designed and built by Robert Yates of Yates Engines, and were originally NASCAR engines in the 1970s. The tractor can make up to 2,600 horsepower at it’s peak. Every component is performance racing quality. The entire setup runs on an International I-9 rear end.

For some farmers, it’s both a business and a hobby. Jim Seymour and his father, Wayne, who run a garden tractor dealership in LaPorte, restore tractors in their garage, a process that involves disassembly down to the bare chassis before sandblasting, fixing all the worn or broken parts and finally painting. It’s a pursuit that can turn into a habit: there are now some 30 tractors in the collections of Seymour family members.
Despite a rather severe farm economy depression at the time, Deere management decided to build a Model D prototype in 1923, designed by Muir L. Frey (father of Ford Mustang designer Donald N. Frey).[2] The Deere Model D was produced from March 1, 1923 to July 3, 1953, the longest production span of all the two-cylinder John Deere tractors. Over 160,000 were made.[3]

These loaders are a popular addition to tractors from 50 to 200 hp. Its current ‘drive-in’ form was originally designed and developed in 1958 by a Swedish company named Ålö when they launched their Quicke loader.[3] Tractor loaders were developed to perform a multitude of farming tasks, and are popular due to their relatively low cost (compared to Telehandler) and high versatility. Tractor loaders can be fitted with many attachments such as hydraulic grabs and spikes to assist with bale and silage handling, forks for pallet work, and buckets for more general farm activities.

The following year 1983 brought in the final two 50 Series tractors namely the 50 hp 1450 and 60 hp 1650. When tested in Nebraska the 1650 proved to be the most fuel efficient tractor ever tested. A 4020 shadow namely the 95 hp 3150 came about in 1985. This was the first John Deere row crop tractor to have MFWD as standard equipment.
On August 30, 1960, John Deere dealers from around the world converged on Dallas, Texas, for an unprecedented product showcase. Deere Day in Dallas, as the event was called, introduced the world to the “New Generation of Power”, the company’s first modern four-cylinder and six-cylinder tractors, during a day packed with high-tech presentations, live demonstrations, and a parking lot full of brand-new green and yellow machines. The line of tractors introduced that day was five years in the making, and the event itself took months to plan. Deere chose Dallas to host the event partly because it was home to facilities large enough to accommodate the 6,000 guests and the equipment they were all there to see. The Dallas Memorial Auditorium, the Texas State Fairgrounds Coliseum, the Cotton Bowl, and the Cotton Bowl parking lot were each the site of part of the event. During the event, a new John Deere tractor with a diamond-covered nameplate was displayed for all to see inside Neiman-Marcus, a popular Dallas-based department store.
Manufactured by British Motor Corporation, the Nuffield Universal was launched in 1948. Subsequent diesel versions included the 60hp 4/60 (1961) and the 10-speed 10/60 (1964), built at BMC’s factory in Bathgate, West Lothian.

Front loaders are commonly used to remove snow especially from sidewalks, parking lots, and other areas too small for using snowplows and other heavy equipment. They are sometimes used as snowplows with a snowplow attachment but commonly have a bucket or snowbasket, which can also be used to load snow into the rear compartment of a snowplow or dump truck.
Collecting these pieces of history preserves and highlights the changes tractors brought to farmers. It is not hard to find a vintage tractor available for an affordable price. Many sellers offer good prices on non-working models, or damaged tractors for parts. Vintage tractor parts, so essential to restoration, can be hard to find. Engine components and elements of the body can be damaged by years of exposure to the elements. However, searching online at eBay for tractor parts and vintage tractors saves you time and trouble.
At Vintage, we have the tools and experience to ensure your order is filled accurately and efficiently every time, including convenient online part requests and the widest selection of online Farmtrac parts manuals.
On the back of the John Deere publication The Furrow (Summer 2008) is a signup for new equipment. The company had another dealer meeting in late July 2008 to introduce many new utility tractors. A swingloader is a rigid frame loader with a swinging boom. The boom can swing 180 degrees or more. Swingloaders are primarily used by the railroad industry to lay rail. Like other loaders many attachments can be attached to the boom such as magnets, forks, and buckets. Smaller swingloaders are used in farming applications for loading out. A swinging boom is advantageous where space is limited. The loader is able to lift on all sides and dump off on all sides.

Compact utility tractors, also called CUTs, are small tractors, typically with 18 to 50 horsepower (37 kW) and used primarily for grounds maintenance and landscape chores. There are 2 primary designs of compact tractor FELs, the traditional dogleg designed style and the curved arm style.

I’ve parted some rough tractors, but I think this one takes the cake! It started as a late LA. Wonder how the transmission ever took that big 6 cylinder GM engine and the 15-24 tires. By the way, this one is #42, but not too many useful parts here! I’ve now parted 80 L series tractors.

In 1989, Deere replaced the 6620, 7720, and 8820 with a new line of completely redesigned ‘Maximizer’ combines that included the 9400, 9500, and 9600 walker combines. These combines were completely redesigned and featured a center-mounted cab, rear-mounted engine, and more comforts in the cab. Also in 1989, Deere was inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame. In 1997, Deere celebrated 50 years of self-propelled combine production, and the 1997 models featured a 50th-anniversary decal. In 1998, the 9410, 9510, and 9610 were introduced. These were essentially the same machines, but with minor upgrades. Deere dealers offered ’10 series’ upgrades to owners of older 9000 series Maximizer combines. In 1999, Deere introduced the 50 series Maximizer combines. These machines featured significant cosmetic upgrades including a more streamlined appearance, improved ergonomics in the cab, PTO shaft-style header hook-up, and the larger models were available as rotary machines which were a complete departure from the combines that Deere had built in the past.[37]

These are the actual, original tractors that started the modified tractor class back in the 70’s-80’s and are effectively museum pieces. The group has a goal to keep their tractors as original as possible, using original parts and maintaining the original appearance as much as safety protocols will allow. One special aspect of this series is the multi-engine modified tractors. This breed of tractor come from the introduction of the crossbox which allows for multiple engines to be used on a single driveshaft. This gave birth to all manner of strange multi-engine designs and setups, making the horsepower and torque skyrocket into the multiple-thousands.

The main reason why a tractor loader can be considered a tractor is that this machine is capable of producing a large amount of torque. By definition, a tractor must be able to produce significant torque at very low speeds. Thus, the loader fits nicely into this category, since it is not a fast machine, but it is a strong machine.

John Deere manufactures a semi-curved loader design that does not feature the one piece curved arm, but also is not of the traditional two piece design. New Holland introduced a compact loader with a one piece curved arm on its compact utility tractors, similar one piece curved arm loaders are now available on compact tractors on many brands including Case IH/Farmall, and some Montana and Kioti tractors. Kubota markets traditional loader designs on most of its compact tractors but now features a semi-curved loader design similar to the John Deere loader design on several of its small tractors.

A tractor loader is a type of tractor that is used to transport certain materials from one area to another space or machine. Loaders are capable of moving a massive amount of heavy material within a short amount of time. Thus, the invention of the tractor loader has greatly changed the way that construction projects are completed.

For example, the new 3032E Tractor will be a 3000 with 32 hp on engine. The E is low-spec. This tractor represents the 2007 year 3203 for its spec, not to be mistaken for the 3320 which has the same hp but more features and at a higher price. Over the next few years all Tractors will get this scheme. The issue is that Deere is using Engine hp in the Name, not PTO which is usually less.

John Deere utility tractors are built to give you the best performance while saving you money on fuel and maintenance. Designed to perform in the harshest conditions, John Deere tractors always show up ready to handle any task you give them.

The John Deere Vermilion Works was located at North Sixth Ave., Hoopston, Illinois, where 140 employees were listed as making iron work and implement parts. Moline, with 42,705 residents in 1962, had the local 7,000 employees of John Deere represent 16% of the city’s entire population.[36]

An excavator can be used for a lot more than just digging. While it’s common for this type of equipment to be used to create trenches and site grading, they can also be used for hauling materials, removing brush, demolition, mining, and snow removal.

There are two main types of “Control” configuration generally use in excavators to control the boom and bucket, both of which spread the four main digging controls between two x-y joysticks. This allows a skilled to control all four functions simultaneously. The most popular configuration in the US is the SAE controls configuration while in other parts of the world, the ISO control configuration is more common. Some manufacturers such as Takeuchi have switches that allow the operator to select which control configuration to use.

“I can’t turn the alarm off. If I had the literature and capability to diagnose and fix it, it would already be done. I changed the mechanical switch and wire, but now I’m down to the programming,” he said Wednesday.

The John Deere Model A came off the assembly line in April 1934. The tractor was 25 hp, was 309 CID and had a four-speed transmission. There were eight different model A variations. Some of these were tricycle, hi-crop, orchard, single front tire and industrial models. The tricycle wheel design, patterned after that of the Farmall tractor, reduced steering effort and greatly increased maneuverability. The Model B was introduced in June 1934. This tractor had a shorter frame than the Model A, but it was eventually lengthened so it could use some of the same equipment that the larger models A and G used. There were also eight different Model B tractor variations, the same as the larger Model A.
Discussion: Both the victim and her son were working in the three-foot space between the loader bucket and the foundation wall. This is inherently dangerous because machine malfunction or operator error can occur. The tractor positioned on a downward slope further increased the risk in this case. The farmer told his wife to stand clear when he started to raise the bucket, but perhaps she did not hear or was unaware of the danger. All workers, supervisors, and machine operators should make sure that no one works between a powerful machine and a stationary object. This also applies to working under hydraulically-supported machine parts where workers could be injured due to machine failure, operator error, or changing conditions of the working environment.
We’ve installed headlights and work lights to the canopy and ROPS respectively. The height of the headlights provides greater ground coverage during night work. The rear-mounted work lights shine brightly for backhoe or 3-point hitch work.

Over the last two decades, manufacturers have used the DMCA to argue that consumers do not own the software underpinning the products they buy—things like smartphones, computers, coffeemakers, cars, and, yes, even tractors. So, Old MacDonald has a tractor, but he owns a massive barn ornament, because the manufacturer holds the rights to the programming that makes it run.
Can you dig it? Add an excavator to your repertoire and you have the hydraulic-powered muscle to tackle an incredible range of tasks. These powerful machines, manufactured by the likes of Caterpillar and Bobcat, make short work of trench-digging and forestry work, and by shopping the huge inventory on eBay you have the opportunity to pick a make and model that fits your requirements and budget.
eBay determines trending price through a machine learned model of the product’s sale prices within the last 90 days. “New” refers to a brand-new, unused, unopened, undamaged item, and “Used” refers to an item that has been used previously.
Initially, the farmer suspected that the bucket was too full of gravel, or that the ground may have been slippery, which would have contributed to forward movement. Photographs taken at the scene immediately after the accident show the tractor sitting on a slope of dry dirt and the bucket less than half full of gravel.
In addition to the name tractor loader, these machines may also be called front loaders, skip loaders, shovels, front end loaders, and payloaders. A loader has a square appearance, a large bucket that is capable of scooping up debris, and two mechanical arms that allow the machine to move with efficiency. Loaders usually have large wheels, though some loaders are build upon tracks.
Farm toys, being part of the traditional antique business, attract many investors. But some collectors are taking a different approach. One collector, Jerry Mez, for instance, decided to create a museum with the items he accumulated, Farmall-Land, in Avoca, Iowa.

The farmer and his wife were building a new house on their farm, planning to give the older house to their son, who worked the farm with them. The concrete foundation of the home was completed and the three of them were in the process of laying drainage tile around the inside and outside perimeter of the foundation.
The 4010 was rated at 80 horsepower in 1960, but tested at 84 horsepower during testing trials, making it one of the most powerful two-wheel-drive farm tractors at that time. The 4010 was the predecessor to the 4020, which is widely regarded as the most popular tractor ever produced by John Deere, and perhaps any tractor manufacturer in the United States. Although the 4020, which was available with Deere’s optional Power Shift, enjoyed greater popularity, the 4010 moved John Deere into the modern era of farm tractor technology and design following its successful history as a tractor manufacturer that was by the late 1950s experiencing waning market share due to its outdated technology.

In the fall of 1996, a 51-year-old Iowa farmwife was killed while helping her husband and son build a new home on their farm. The woman and her 21-year-old son were standing next to the exterior foundation of the home covering drainage tubing with gravel. The woman was holding down the tile with her feet while her son was shoveling gravel out of a partially-filled front end loader bucket on a tractor his father was driving. The edge of the bucket was approximately three feet from the foundation wall when this work began. The father had the tractor in gear with the clutch pushed in, and his foot on the brakes, sitting on a slope of about 18 degrees downwards towards the house foundation. When he began to raise the bucket, suddenly the farmer heard his son yell at him and realized the tractor was creeping forward towards the foundation despite his pressure on the brakes. He saw his son being pinned to the wall with his back towards the tractor, then realized that his wife was also being pinned to the wall with the other corner of the bucket. He immediately put the tractor in reverse and backed off, at which time both his wife and son fell to the ground. The son received only minor injuries to his back, but the farmer’s wife was killed instantly from internal vascular rupture.

The predecessor of Waterloo Boy came about in 1892. It was made by thresherman John Froelich. It is called the Froelich tractor. Scale Models of Dyersville, Iowa[1] made a 1/16 scale toy of this tractor. In March 1918 Deere & Company decided to continue its foray into the tractor business by purchasing the Waterloo Gasoline Engine Company which manufactured the popular Waterloo Boy tractor at its facilities in Waterloo, Iowa.

Rio de Janeiro’s police elite squad Batalhão de Operações Policiais Especiais (BOPE) has acquired one wheel loader designed for military use to open routes and make way for the police in Rio de Janeiro’s slums, which are controlled, and blocked, by drugdealers.[2]

Hydraulic excavators usually couple engine power to (commonly) three hydraulic pumps rather than to mechanical drivetrains. The two main pumps supply oil at high pressure (up to 5000 psi) for the arms, swing motor, track motors and accessories while the third is a lower pressure (~700 psi) pump for pilot control of the spool valves; this third circuit allows for reduced physical effort when operating the controls. Generally, the 3 pumps used in excavators consist of 2 variable displacement piston pumps and a gear pump. The arrangement of the pumps in the excavator unit changes with different manufacturers using different formats.

The company produced its first combine harvester, the John Deere No. 2, in 1927. A year later, this innovation was followed up by the introduction of John Deere No. 1, a smaller machine that was more popular with customers. By 1929, the No. 1 and No. 2 were replaced by newer, lighter-weight harvesters. In the 1930s, John Deere and other farm equipment manufacturers began developing hillside harvesting technology. Harvesters now had the ability to effectively use their combines to harvest grain on hillsides with up to a 50% slope gradient.[8]

To introduce its New Generation tractors to all of its dealers in a single day, the company chartered planes to fly more than 5,000 people to Dallas, Texas, on August 30, 1961. Deere put their new tractors on display outside the Cotton Bowl and inside Neiman Marcus. The day would mark the release of a revolutionary line of farm tractors with sleek new styling by Henry Dreyfuss that would soon become the standard all other farm tractors would be measured by.[6] These tractors were the 1010, 2010, 3010 and 4010.

By 1925, the company realized the standard Model D did not meet customers’ needs for industrial applications. Steel wheels were not suitable for hard surfaces, and the gearing was too slow for safe road speeds. Solid rubber tires were added, and engineers fitted a 28-tooth sprocket to the final drive, giving a road speed of 4 mph (6.4 km/h). The company replaced the 465 cu in (7.62 l) two-cylinder engine with a 501 cu in (8.21 l). In 1926, Deere advertised the model as the “John Deere Industrial Tractor” with 40 × b inch[clarification needed] rear wheels and 24 in × 3.5 in (610 mm × 89 mm) fronts with solid tires. This became known as the “DI”. Options also included wheel weights.[5]

The two main sections of an excavator are the undercarriage and the house. The undercarriage includes the blade (if fitted), tracks, track frame, and final drives, which have a hydraulic motor and gearing providing the drive to the individual tracks, and the house includes the operator cab, counterweight, engine, fuel and hydraulic oil tanks. The house attaches to the undercarriage by way of a center pin. High pressure oil is supplied to the tracks’ hydraulic motors through a hydraulic swivel at the axis of the pin, allowing the machine to slew 360° unhindered.[8]

Unlike most bulldozers, most loaders are wheeled and not tracked, although track loaders are common. They are successful where sharp edged materials in construction debris would damage rubber wheels, or where the ground is soft and muddy. Wheels provide better mobility and speed and do not damage paved roads as much as tracks, but provide less traction.

In a particularly spectacular display of corporate delusion, John Deere—the world’s largest agricultural machinery maker —told the Copyright Office that farmers don’t own their tractors. Because computer code snakes through the DNA of modern tractors, farmers receive “an implied license for the life of the vehicle to operate the vehicle.”

On June 20, 1928, the model designation was changed from “C” to “GP” to avoid confusion with the “D” when dealers were phoning in orders to the factory. “GP” stands for “General Purpose”. This new model GP had the same horsepower, engine displacement, weight and three-speed transmission as the model C. The GP’s first serial number was 200211 . In 1930, the GP was updated with a 25-horsepower, 339 cubic-inch engine.

Excavators are pieces of heavy construction equipment that consist of a boom, dipper, bucket, and cab that are mounted on a rotating platform called the house. The house is mounted on an undercarriage with tracks or wheels. These machines can sometimes also be referred to as steam or power shovels, but they are actually a much more advanced version of the steam shovels that were once common on construction sites.

The combination of the agricultural repair with electronic goods repair makes Kenney nervous: he thinks it’s going to be a harder fight with the attention and lobbying clout of technology giants. “Apple is going to throw too much money at it,” he said.
It’s usually possible to hire an operator at the same time and place that you rent the excavator. Expect to pay an extra $20 to $50 an hour for this service. Be aware that some companies simply include the operator in the rental price, however. Excavators are usually delivered to the construction site by the rental company. Moving the equipment usually costs an average of $3 a mile, computed from the rental company warehouse to the construction site.
Mini-excavators are usually the cheapest option, but they cannot move nearly the same quantity of material as larger excavators. Nonetheless, smaller excavators can be an ideal choice for smaller jobs, particularly in areas where space is very tight.

The tractor the farmer was operating was purchased new in the spring of 1995. It had four-wheel drive with spring-engaged hydraulic brakes on the front wheels also, 66 hp, an open driver station with roll-over protective structure (ROPS), and was equipped with a front-end loader. The farmer was familiar with this tractor and all aspects of its operation, having used the tractor daily since it was purchased.
While the front-end loaders on CUT size tractors are capable of many tasks, given their relatively small size and low capacities when compared to commercial loaders, the compact loaders can be made more useful with some simple options. A toothbar is commonly added to the front edge of a loader bucket to aid with digging. Some loaders are equipped with a quick coupler, otherwise known as a quick attach (QA) system. The QA system allows the bucket to be removed easily and other tools to be added in its place. Common additions include a set of pallet forks for lifting pallets of goods or a bale spear for lifting hay bales.
It’s also important to be aware of the attachments offered for each device. For example, depending on the make and model of the excavator, it may be possible to get an extended boom arm or an arm with multiple pivot points. Typically, these are most common in mini-excavators. It’s also possible to find numerous bucket attachments, including attachments that can assist with crushing, lifting, and cutting.
Prior to the tractor loader, materials such as asphalt, rock, debris from demolitions, logs, wood chips, and many others had to be moved by hand. This type of hand transport often required many different workers, and moving one pile of material to a construction vehicle took quite a number of hours to complete. When the tractor loader was invented, the need for laborers to spend hours moving heavy material was eliminated.
These loaders pick up where others drop off. The TSL system eliminates the variable “waving” action of leveling during the lift and lower cycle, so common in some other brands. During the raise/lower cycle, the bucket stays perfectly level or at the desired position. Not just approximately – precisely. The TSL system provides full dump at ground, and additional roll back as the loader raises.
In addition to the advanced engine technology, the “10” series tractors offered many other upgrades from the older two-cylinder models they replaced, including significantly higher horsepower-to-weight ratio, advanced hydraulics, more convenient and comfortable operator stations, and many other improvements. Of the “10” series John Deere tractors introduced in 1960, the 4010 was by far the most popular, with more than 58,000 units sold from 1960 to 1963. The success of the “10” series John Deere tractors, led by the 4010, helped propel John Deere from a 23% market share in 1959 to 34% by 1964 when the 4020 was introduced, making it the top manufacturer of farm equipment in the United States.[33][34][35]

These four 8000 Series tractors were so far ahead of their time that it would be another four years until a competitor had tractors that were similar to them. One lone utility tractor, the 73 hp 5500 was added in the fall of 1995.

The traditional way of doing business was to make the product as and when it was ordered. This style was very slow, As Deere realized that this was not going to be a viable business model, he increased rate of production by manufacturing plows before putting them up for sale; this allowed customers to not only see what they were buying beforehand, but also allowed his customers to purchase his products straight away. Word of his products began to spread quickly.

The loader assembly may be a removable attachment or permanently mounted. Often the bucket can be replaced with other devices or tools—for example, many can mount forks to lift heavy pallets or shipping containers, and a hydraulically opening “clamshell” bucket allows a loader to act as a light dozer or scraper. The bucket can also be augmented with devices like a bale grappler for handling large bales of hay or straw.
It’s got a bucket (starting to rust at the back of the bucket, see pictures, still lots of life in it), and also a set of muck forks, if you want I have a home made rear ballast made from an oil drum and bricks for if you lift over 200kg, it will lift about 500kg, I only know this as I had to move a half ton feed sack a few years back!

Kyle is one of many farmers in the US fighting for the right to repair their equipment. He and others are getting behind Nebraska’s “Fair Repair” bill, which would require companies to provide consumers and independent repair shops access to service manuals, diagnostic tools and parts so they aren’t limited to a single supplier. They have an unlikely ally: repair shops for electronic items like iPhones, tablets and laptops who struggle to find official components and information to fix broken devices. This means the bill could benefit not just farmers but anyone who owns electronic goods. There’s also a benefit to the environment, as it would allow for more refurbishment and recycling instead of sending equipment to the landfill.

There are corn and soy fields as far as the eye can see around Kyle Schwarting’s home in Ceresco, Nebraska. The 36-year-old farmer lives on a small plot of land peppered with large agricultural machines including tractors, planters and a combine harvester.

In 1937 John Deere hired well known industrial designer Henry Dreyfuss from New York City to re-style Deere’s agricultural equipment, especially its tractors. In the fall of a Deere tractor engineer was sent to New York to ask Dreyfuss to redesign the tractors. Legend has it that Dreyfuss was so intrigued by the project that he took a train to Waterloo that very night. Dreyfuss learned to operate the tractors and worked with them in the field to gain firsthand knowledge of the changes that needed to be made. The first two letter series tractors (the A and B) were the first to receive the new modern styling, and other models were added later. The Dreyfuss styling was intended to help John Deere compete with the forthcoming Farmall “letter series” of tractors, which, along with the Ford-Ferguson, were John Deere’s largest competition at this time. Dreyfuss and the Waterloo engineers perfected the styled design that was used on all John Deere tractors with only minor changes through 1959.

The company manufactures lawn mowers and also is a manufacturer of consumer and commercial equipment, and snow throwers, as well as a supplier of diesel engines and powertrains (axles, transmissions, etc.) used especially in heavy equipment.[citation needed]

This new model GP had the same horsepower, engine displacement, weight and three-speed transmission as the model C. The GP’s first serial number was 200211 . In 1930, the GP was updated with a 25-horsepower, 339 cubic-inch engine.

The largest loader in the world is LeTourneau L-2350. Currently these large loaders are in production in the Longview, Texas facility. The L-2350 uses a diesel electric propulsion system similar to that used in a locomotive. Each rubber tired wheel is driven by its own independent electric motor.

The year 2000 was not an active year for new John Deere tractor launches but did yield the 48 hp 4700. But the year 2001 produced 32 new green-and-yellow tractors. Starting with the 40 hp 990 Advantage Series compact diesel tractor this was only the beginning. Two new 5005 Series Advantage were also added. These were the 45 hp 5105 and 53 hp 5205.

The Dain All-Wheel Drive was the first tractor produced by John Deere. In 1911, Deere purchased the Dain Manufacturing Company of Ottumwa, Iowa. The next year, Deere decided to design its own tractor, and Dain founder Joseph Dain Sr., was directed to design that tractor. After several prototypes, the design was finalized in 1917, and 100 production units were ordered. By 1919 when that production run was complete, Deere had purchased the Waterloo Boy company. Although the Dain AWD was ahead of its time, with features such as a shift-on-the-fly transmission, Deere halted production in late 1919, partly because the cost of the Dain tractor was double that of the Waterloo Boy, and partly because of the death of Dain Sr.

In 1973, Deere introduced its new tractors, the 4030, 4230, 4430, and 4630. While these tractors were mechanically similar to the New Generation tractors they replaced, and the 4230, 4430, and 4630 used a 404-cubic-inch displacement engine like the 4020, they featured redesigned sheet metal and most importantly they were available with an optional completely integrated operator’s cab that John Deere called the Sound Gard body. This insulated cab that included a roll-over protective structure had a distinctive rounded windshield and came equipped with heat and air conditioning, as well as speakers for an optional radio. An 8-track tape player was also available as an option. The 5020 was replaced by the very similar 6030 and continued in production with New Generation styling until 1977 when the 30 Series tractors were replaced by Deere’s ‘Iron Horses’ series that included the 90-hp 4040, 110-hp 4240, 130-hp 4440, 150-HP 4640, and 180-hp 4840. The 4240, 4440, 4640, and 4840 featured a new 466-cubic-inch displacement engine, and improvements to the cab including an optional hydraulic seat for a smoother ride. The Sound Gard body and Power Shift transmission were standard equipment on the 4840.

During the 1950s, the R saw a series of upgrades in the models 80, 820 and 830. The 80 was produced for two years and 3,500 were produced. It had new features, including power steering and dual hydraulics. It developed 68 hp and weighed 8,100 pounds. The 80 also corrected the other design flaws within the R such as using a water pump and pressure radiator cap and the addition of a center crankshaft main bearing.

We examined the tractor which was being used at the home construction site. All controls seemed to be in proper working order during our visit. The loader and bucket appeared large for the size of tractor, however, this is a typical combination for this tractor model. Three dealer representatives we interviewed were not aware of any similar brake problems with this tractor model, and had not heard complaints from any tractor owners. Without further testing, it is not possible to conclude that the brakes malfunctioned, nor demonstrate that they were working in atypical fashion at the time of the accident.

An excavator is designed to do one thing well – to dig out trenches, footings, and foundations with ease. Excavators are available in a variety of sizes, from the micro-excavator units that are adept at navigating tight urban or residential areas, to the massive earth-moving units that can scoop thousands of pounds of material in one pass. With the popularity of excavators at an all time high, it pays to understand the differences between competing models. Then, you can make an educated choice on a model that will serve your crew the best.

During World War II, the great-grandson of John Deere, Charles Deere Wiman, was president of the company, but he accepted a commission as a colonel in the U.S. Army. A replacement was hired and before returning to work at the company in late 1944, Wiman directed the farm machinery and equipment division of the War Production Board.[10] In addition to farm machinery, John Deere manufactured military tractors, and transmissions for the M3 tank. They also made aircraft parts, ammunition, and mobile laundry units to support the war effort.[11]

On March 17, 2009 Deere.com announced the new 152 hp 7530 Premium tractor. During the week of August 13, 2009 the company had another big dealer meeting in Omaha, Nebraska to introduce the new 8R/8RT row crop and track tractors to their dealers. On August 20, 2009 at Deere.com a news release was posted on the 8R, 8RT and two new 5105M specialty tractors. The 8225R is the only one available as a two-wheel-drive model. Optional IVT or Powershift Transmissions. In John Deere language the first number=size, the next three numbers are the engine hp and the letter at the end stands for capability. The six tractors range from 225 to 345 hp with the 8345R being the most powerful row crop model on the market. Also shown to the dealers were the new 8RT rubber track tractor models. These three models are the 295 hp 8295RT, 320 hp 8320RT and the 345 hp 8345RT. The T at the end stands for tracks. Other than that the numbers in the 8RT Series are the same in their 8R counterparts. PTO hp for the three 8RT tractors are 239, 260 and 281 respectively.

In recent years, some companies have even leveraged the DMCA to stop owners from modifying the programming on those products. This means you can’t strip DRM off smart kitty litter boxes, install custom software on your iPad, or alter the calibration on a tractor’s engine. Not without potentially running afoul of the DMCA.

The major components included in a loader are the engine (diesel in almost all cases), the hydraulic components (such as pumps, motors and valves) and the transmission components (gearbox, axles, wheels/tracks, pumps, motors, etc.). The engine runs both the hydraulics and the transmission, and these in turn move the front attachment (a bucket, forks, sweeper, etc.) to manipulate the material which we are handling (sand, gravel, cereal, manure or anything else) and the wheels or tracks to move the machine around the jobsite.

Excavators are a valuable tool in a wide range of applications, from digging trenches and preparing foundations on construction sites, to driving in piles on a farm. Clear snow in poor weather, dredge rivers, or demolish existing structures as part of a clearing operation. Access to a John Deere or Komatsu digger makes many projects easier, helping you to keep to deadlines and improve overall workforce efficiency. While most excavators have tracks, it is also possible to get wheeled models, which may be more suitable in certain working environments, especially if you need to drive between work sites on main roads or require extra maneuverability.

“The bad part is, my sense is, these companies are just locking up this technology, and increasing the sort of monopoly pricing structure that just doesn’t work for us,” Brian Talley, a farmer on California’s central coast, says of restrictions placed on his equipment. I toured his farm with a fellow from the Intellectual Property & Technology Law Clinic so we could tell the Copyright Office how manufacturers are hampering farmers. “We are used to operating independently, and that’s one of the great things about being a farmer. And in this particular space, they are really taking that away from us.”

Deere & Company began when John Deere, born in Rutland, Vermont, USA on February 7, 1804, moved to Grand Detour, Illinois in 1836 to escape bankruptcy in Vermont. Already an established blacksmith, Deere opened a 1,378-square-foot (128 m2) shop in Grand Detour in 1837, which allowed him to serve as a general repairman in the village, as well as a manufacturer of small tools such as pitchforks and shovels. Small tools production was just a start; the item that set him apart was the self-scouring steel plow, which was pioneered in 1837 when John Deere fashioned a Scottish steel saw blade into a plow. Prior to Deere’s steel plow, most farmers used iron or wooden plows to which the rich Midwestern soil stuck, so had to be cleaned frequently. The smooth-sided steel plow solved this problem, and greatly aided migration into the American Great Plains in the 19th and early 20th centuries.

The National Tractor Pulling Legends Series (NTPL), based out of Northwest Ohio, was founded 6 years ago by Mike who wanted to create a series that was governed and organized with a set of rules that preserves and protects tractors built before 1980. The National Pulling Legends Series chose 1980 as the cutoff date for the vintage modified tractors because that was a pivotal year of changes in the industry, where tractors were starting to be built on a larger scale with production “cookie-cutter” style designs and racing chassis of modern-day pulling.

Discussion: The farmer is convinced that the brakes malfunctioned on his tractor. He reported receiving calls from other farmers regarding similar problems using this type of tractor. It is not in the scope of the FACE program to test and determine whether the malfunction took place or whether it is typical for this tractor model. There may be a possibility of varying hydraulic oil levels when using a tractor on an incline, and this may affect performance of the tractor hydraulics and the brakes. Further testing would be needed to prove or exclude this possibility.
